Last Saturday 17th March we launched our 2018 'Music on Your Doorstep' project with a day of music-making in the village of Holt. The village hall was buzzing with people from toddlers all the way up to retired people and everyone else in between.
The day included Gospel Singing, Music Technology, African Drumming and Ukulele workshops as well as a 'Mini Musicians' session for under 5's and their families. There were also opportunities to try a variety of musical instruments from our instrument loan scheme, as well as iPads and of course our Jam Pod!
'This sort of event never happens in the village and what a great opportunity it has been to just have a go' - Event participant.
For those who wanted to sit back and listen, local groups and individuals performed throughout the day. These included the 'Red Holt Chilli Peppers' (Holt school rock band), Holt Sings (community choir) and Chloe Tyghe (singer song writer).
In the evening the Old Ham Tree hosted 'Jam at the Ham', a jam session for local musicians to play and others to listen. Informal music-making at grassroots level is something WRM love to promote and encourage! Look out for more of these events in the future!
WRM would like to thank the Bradford on Avon Area Board (Wiltshire Council) for their financial support to make this event happen.
As a result of this fantastic event we are now launching 'Ngoma dzeHolt!' (Drums of Holt) African Drumming sessions in the village starting on Thursday 14th June 2018!
