Set up to encourage young musicians to further their musical journey, we are currently accepting submissions for our annual Liz Lawrence Award. Given to a promising student residing in Wiltshire to aid with her or his studies in higher education through the field of music, the award currently stands at £1000. The winner is also given the opportunity to actively participate in a concert funded by Wiltshire Rural Music towards the end of their first undergraduate year. Previously WRM has been fortunate in securing venues such as Longleat House, Lacock Abbey and Edington Priory. The successful applicant will assist in the planning for the concert along with publicity etc, with each aspect supported and guided by the Creative Director and Trustees of WRM. All styles of music both vocal and instrumental will be considered in the application process as long as it is an examinable activity, and instruments are recognised by an examining board.
To apply :
Send in a letter of application which includes your name, address, email address, telephone number, date of birth, school attended, the university/college where a provisional place has been offered to you, your musical achievements, musical activities both in and out of school, planned use of the award if successful, and two separate music references (one from within school and one non-school).
We are sorry but post graduate students will not be considered for this award.
Closing date for applications : Wednesday 5th June 2019, 5.00pm.
Applicants may be shortlisted and will be asked to attend an audition at our hub in Trowbridge, where they will be asked to play two contrasting pieces lasting up to ten minutes, and talk about how music impacts their lives. A question and answer session (from both sides) concludes the audition.
We will be holding auditions later in June 2019 with the award presentation taking place on 19th July 2019.
