Up against an extremely high calibre list of applicants, Chippenham-based clarinettist Grace White won the 2019 Liz Lawrence Award in July. Currently first clarinet in the West of England Youth Orchestra, Grace is planning on using the £1000 prize-money on a new clarinet (in A), to help further her musical career at the prestigious Royal Northern College of Music. She will be studying the BMus in Performance. Grace has been co-principal clarinet at Bristol Youth Orchestra, is a member of the Ebonite group here at WRM, and is devoted to helping people benefit from live music. This included working alongside Dementia Support at their Music For The Mind events, as well as assisting young violinists and cellists as conductor of Chippenham Junior Strings. Grace's audition was flawless and her joy and passion for the benefits music can bring really shone through. She is a deserved winner of the Liz Lawrence Award and we look forward with great interest to her Winner's Concert in 2020 (details to be announced soon).
