Tory started playing the violin at age 8with Fräulein Kyriakou in Germany. She then moved to Salisbury and studied locallywith Christopher Watts, Marian Givens and later, Daphne Moody.

Tory was schooled at Christ the King inAmesbury and South Wilts Grammar School for Girls in Salisbury, where shegained 11 GCSE’s and 3 A-levels in German, Psychology and Music (including amark of 100% in her A-level music recital).

Tory achieved her Grade 8 violin withhonours in March 2005, aged 15 and was awarded the BBC Fame Academy Bursarylater that year, which enabled her to buy her violin.

She enjoys orchestral and chamber music andhas a lot of orchestral experience. When living in Salisbury she played withthe Salisbury Sinfonia, Salisbury Symphony Orchestra and leads the Wiltshireand Swindon Youth Orchestra, with whom she embarked on an orchestral tour toItaly performing with Natalie Clein in 2007. She also played in the orchestrasfor Winterbourne Opera, Larkhill Choral Society, and St. John’s singers. She isalso an augment player for Dorset Philharmonic and many other chamber andorchestral ensembles. She has been extensively involved in playing for thecommunity – worked at Salisbury Area Young Musicians with string groups,performed for many charity concerts, provided music for children’s pantomimesetc. Tory also founded and leads the Johnson Quartet which has been runningsuccessfully for several years - which has enabled her to perform at manyvenues and events throughout Wiltshire and the surrounding area. She has beeninvolved orchestral and studio recording sessions – including with Alice Nearyand the WSYO and recording for a new rock band –‘Starling’- in Bradford.

Tory was awarded the Liz Lawrence Award byWiltshire Rural Music School in Summer 08 and later that year won the EileenMerry Bursary from Salisbury Symphony Orchestra Sept 08.

Currently, she studies Music andPerformance at the University of Leeds where she was recently awarded theBlanche L. Leigh Scholarship for first year performance. Tory also plays in theSymphony and Chamber orchestras at Leeds University.

Tory now learns with Raimonda Koço in Leedsand is preparing for auditions to gain a place at the Royal School of Music inKöln to continue studying the violin for a year before returning to Leeds tocomplete her degree in 2012.

Tory’s other interests include jewellerymaking, shopping and choral singing.
